David Binner of Lestown, Pennsylvania got a $5.00 parking ticket. This did not sit well with him. He did however send a cheque in full payment. The problem is in the “re” line, he wrote a comment that did not amuse the authorities and he was charged with disorderly conduct. The news report does not say what exactly he wrote but his lawyer said something like, “The ‘F’ word is not what it used to be. It does not have a sexual connotation anymore and so it can’t be considered obscene”
The charge was dropped as the man apologized, saying his act was a temporary lapse of judgment in a moment of frustration.
Actually in a way I respect the man for his candour. He expressed his frustration the way we all would like to for getting an annoying parking ticket. I think bureaucrats should not be so uptight and readily allow people they ticket to vent their frustrations. What did they expect the man to write in the “re” line?
I am more concerned about the tight a** authorities overreacting. I know clients generally don’t like to pay lawyers’ legal bills fees but if a disgruntled client would make a notation on his cheque to me using English other than the King’s, I know what I’d do. I’d run right to the bank. Let them complain.
I certainly don’t plan to bring my parking business to Lestown, Pennsylvania.
